The Kids Are All Gone!
Our kids all disappeared last night! We need you to find them and bring them home, before it’s too late.
- Mack Dolman, Mayor of Marfstead
Recap
Mack Dolman, Mayor of Marfstead summons a crew of Luckian helpers to help find kids that have gone missing from the town. Nuith, Ra, and Drung show up on the scene and do their best to get a beat on the situation. After a bit of questioning and investigation, they follow a set of child-sized humanoid footprints that seem to be traveling with a group of goats into the nearby woods.
While tracking, it soon becomes clear there is at least one large wolf hot on the trail just ahead of them. Just as the party arrives to a glen/glade/dell where a bunch of baby goats and children are laughing and playing, Verdant appears on the scene after finding the questboard notice getting consumed by plants he can’t help himself but to investigate. It’s right on time as Nuith and Verdant spot the wolves surrounding the playing kids about to pounce! (It is at this point we being pondering whether they were sent here for the children or the goats…)
Despite a lot of screaming, crying, and scattering on the kids part, Nuith, Ra, Drung, and Verdant find themselves to be adept wolf-hunters. Nuith tackles the smaller group of wolves by herself while Verdant controls the movement of the other grouping, giving Drung a good shot at the huge wolf as Ra makes it over to start riding one of the large ones. Only one goat was lost in the fray as the wolves started trying to retreat with a meal, but none escaped. Verdant is able to calm the goat kids, which helps the humanoid kids calm down as well. After some coaxing and conversation, the party gets them all wrangled and ready to journey back to town. We learn about how stealing is wrong, if you’re going to sneak off you should or shouldn’t do so with a knife (maybe take an adult?), and the kids really connect with Drung learning Little Guy Code.
On the journey back to town through the woods, a hapless Chupacabra tries to sneak off with one of the goats for dinner but is promptly stopped and put down. It’s not even a little bit of a close fight.
Back in town, the Mayor is relieved to see the return of the kids… but isn’t so sure at first what all the children are doing here! That’s when he realizes it’s the anniversary of another missing animal prank by a group of older kids last year, these children are from the town over. They are made to return all the goats and the party elects to help escort them back. One of the little girls overhears Ra and Nuith discuss Fey politics and pronounces herself a Winter Queen. Ultimately, everyone makes it safe and sound back to their homes and the children have all been given a good talking to about pulling unsafe pranks.
