Protect My Son

Please… they’re after my son. He’s not safe here. Can you get him across the desert safely? Miss Jenna Orwick

Recap

Zuni, Nyra, and Soifra find themselves escorting a small, nonverbal, telekinetic Grung child named Gordie across the desert from one village to another via the only available airship shuttle. Soifra and Raff instantly take on the role of bodyguards and babysitter’s club, not hesitating to bribe their way into a private room for enhanced security during their travels on the airship. Nyra quite literally carries them all to make sure they get there in time. Once on board, Zuni spends most of her time berating poor engineering and shoddy flying, fixing up locks and keeping busy. Nyra keeps watch.

Everyone works together to deal with the dangers of the open desert, thwarting would-be robbers, handling dangerous wildlife, then repairing and flying the nearly broken-down ship to safety in a close-call but perfect landing right at the end. Soifra and Raff have a bit of fun intimidating thugs, turning sand into glass, and taunting (then healing) an angry bull-like creature. Zuni takes skyward point, raining down justice from above before using her incredible tinkering and piloting skills to ensure the ship will be able to finish the journey. Nyra barely breaks a sweat while wrestling two giant scorpions trying to make the crashed ship their new home before they could terrorize everyone on board. Gordie shoves a petty thief telekinetically and tries to distract a scorpion with mage hand.

In the end, they accomplish their mission and deliver the small green boy to his new guardian, a well-to-do friend of Gordie’s adoptive mother. He gladly offers them some gold and items to help them keep watch over the boy until he can be taken somewhere more secure.
