My time on the force is coming to an end and I only have a few days left to bring down the crime syndicate keeping our city in constant fear, and I’m out of allies. Diali goes on an investigation! Pulled into a world plagued by a crime syndicate and dirty Chief of Police, a lone police captain wants to complete her goal of bringing them to justice before being forced to retire for the safety of her loved ones – the Chief is onto her suspicions. Diali’s expert investigative skills kick into high gear as she bypasses all of the Chief’s security systems and finds hidden treasure, files, and a suspicious address with a nine digit number.
After (mostly successfully) driving her first car, Diali crashes the landing as she tries to park. Thankfully, she’s able to fix the dent using her incredible tinkering skills in combination with mending. At the address, she uses the numbers cleverly to open a storage room where finds a small illusionary empty room, which upon dispelling reveals the location of an illegal fighting ring.
She awakens a pair of bug-eyed guards who do not seem impressed or intimidated by her… that is, until she summons an aberration and promptly knocks one of them unconscious. She demands to see the boss, and learns she’ll need to come back later for the fights.
Together with Captain Tess Anderson, she helps collect a few of the cops that had been previously intimidated into silence by the Chief to act as witness and apprehend him at the ring, where he is rumored to be tonight by some of Anderson’s sources. With a little bit of luck they are able to infiltrate the event unnoticed.
Once inside, they wait for the crime syndicate leader and the Chief to finally make contact. The Chief is demanding an overdue bribe payment immediately! Making her move, Diali, the Captain, and the others close in. The boss and the Chief put up a fight, but Diali quickly displays just who is the boss around here… even as the boss tried to escape to the rafters, Diali yanked him back down to the floor, catching him with her sword before he landed, where he is completely knocked out. The Captain showed a bit of ability too, causing the Chief to grovel which provides quite enough time to get him in manacles – when he tries to resist Diali handily knocks him out as well. It turns out, despite the Chief’s protests, she really does carry quite a bit of authority in this jurisdiction! None resist her as she insists they surrender to the few good cops remaining.
The Captain organizes immediate action to build momentum on this arrest before any of the Chief’s cronies in the force can undo this good work. She arranges for Diali to obtain a classic detective’s trench coat, imbued with magic to enhance her abilities in future investigations, and additional gold is paid from the city using part of the recovered treasures from the syndicate. Diali sticks around long enough to help Captain Anderson go into hiding with her family, to ensure the work gets done and the Captain can avoid the growing threats of revenge against her.
