The Story
There was once a little boy in the town of Svarholt who would not listen to his Mother when she instructed him to stay inside or close to home in the yard, and to never talk to strangers. Instead, the boy ran about the town and out onto the roads, playing with any child he met. No matter how his mother scolded or disciplined him, he refused to listen and change his devilish ways.
One day the boy decided to go to see what lay beyond the town. There the boy met a child who looked like an Angel alone on the road. The Angelchild said, they needed a friend and wanted to play, so the naughty little boy decided to bring them home while his Mother was still out looking for him.
They played hide and seek long into the day, until both the boy and the Angelchild were exhausted and fell asleep. The naughty boy was glad he had gotten away with another day of mischief. However, late that night he woke to the sounds of his Mother’s scream cut quickly short and a blinding flash of light. When he looked around he saw the Angelchild was gone.
The boy crept quietly to see what had happened. He found a pile of ash where his Mother’s body should have been and he wept uncontrollably. If only he had listened to his Mother!
The bright light was still in the sky and began moving away. Looking up he saw a Mighty Angel holding the Angelchild as they flew into the night. Had he heeded his Mother’s warning, he would not have brought such ill upon her. And thus the little boy learned all children should listen to their elders and be obedient, or else incur the wrath of Angels upon their Mothers and Fathers.
